Introduction - Regina Barra Ladron de Guevara

    Hi everyone, my name is Regina (she/her/hers), and I will be one of your CCPCJ Vice Chairs this year. Some background about me is that I am a junior at UC Berkeley, and I am studying Political Science (with a specialization in International Relations) and Philosophy (with a focus on ethics). I was born and partially raised in Mexico City and then San Diego, and now I live here. I did Model UN and Model Legislature and Court for a total of 6 years before coming to university and joined BMUN last year. In addition to this organization, I work in the Associated Students of the University of California (ASUC) as a chief of staff to a student senator, and I often intern in electoral campaigns in California. After university, I hope to attend law school on the East Coast and study International Law, which furthers my passion for what we work towards in BMUN. 

    Aside from academics, I love to read in my free time, so if you have any book recommendations, let me know, as well as anything to do with music or cinema. I am also a big fan. I love Formula 1 (Ferrari fan) and American Football (Steelers fan), so if you share that passion with me, please let me know. I am very excited to meet you all at this conference, and I hope you all have a wonderful time!

Procedure & Committee Flow!

  Hi Delegates! I wanted to check in with you to provide some more insight to how our committee is going to work at BMUN 72. CCPCJ will be using standard BMUN procedure. Our committee will begin by opening a running Speaker’s List (standard speaking time is 1 minute, 30 seconds) and those speeches will be followed by 2 30-second comments by other delegates. This is the default timing for the Speaker’s List and can be amended if agreed upon by the committee. The Speaker’s List can also be interrupted by Moderated Caucuses and Informal Caucuses that give delegates the opportunity to exchange opinions on policy, solutions, and more specific aspects of the topics at hand. In our committee, our dais plans on leaving the flow of committee up to you delegates, so we suggest you come prepared with specific subtopics and policies you hope to discuss! Introduction -- Mahima Shyno

Hey Delegates!  My name is Mahima Shyno (she/her) and I’m the head chair for CCPCJ this year! I am currently a sophomore studying Sociology and Media Studies (concentrated in law and policy.) Academically, I'm super interested in social issues and how societal structures influence and impact communities as well as the role that media can play in creating a better world.  Outside of BMUN, I’m involved in undergraduate research for the linguistics department and I’m a video producer for the Daily Californian (Berkeley’s student news publication!).  I enjoy listening to podcasts, watching movies, and exploring. Recently, I have been doing street photography in the bay and learning to make jewelry.  This is my second year in BMUN but I’ve been involved in MUN since I was in middle school. Welcome to BMUN!

Hi delegates! We are so excited to welcome you to BMUN 72 and the CCPCJ committee. In this committee, you will be learning how to critique, analyze, and fix the international communities current systems, policies, and culture in regards to criminal justice and organized crime. Our first topic addresses the importance of decreasing state dependency on carceral systems . Our second topic addresses organized environmental crime in the Amazon . This blog will act as our committee’s more informal avenue for discussion and communication before the conference– and we’d love to see you interact with it! The purpose of this blog is to (1) allow you to actively engage with the content of this committee and (2) give you all the opportunity to learn about other countries’ policies before the debate actually starts.
