Introduction - Min Kim

 

Hi everyone!

My name is Min Kim (she/her) and I will be one of your vice chairs for CCPCJ this year. I'm in my freshman year here at UC Berkeley studying English, and I'm also planning on minoring in Spanish. Last year, I had the opportunity to attend BMUN as a delegate so I'm very excited to be able to participate again as a chair this time. I started MUN in my freshman year of high school not expecting much, but it's become a pivotal part of my educational career and taught me so many skills I would've been lacking in otherwise. During my short time in this club I've been able to meet so many amazing people who are passionate about such a wide array of global issues.

Outside of BMUN, I enjoy crocheting/knitting (ask me about my cloud cardigan!), listening to artists like Seventeen and Glass Animals, and reading. I'm also a new fan of Formula 1 and this will be my first season, so I'm excited to tune in! I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's speeches and ideas during conference, good luck to everyone!

Procedure & Committee Flow!

  Hi Delegates! I wanted to check in with you to provide some more insight to how our committee is going to work at BMUN 72. CCPCJ will be using standard BMUN procedure. Our committee will begin by opening a running Speaker’s List (standard speaking time is 1 minute, 30 seconds) and those speeches will be followed by 2 30-second comments by other delegates. This is the default timing for the Speaker’s List and can be amended if agreed upon by the committee. The Speaker’s List can also be interrupted by Moderated Caucuses and Informal Caucuses that give delegates the opportunity to exchange opinions on policy, solutions, and more specific aspects of the topics at hand. In our committee, our dais plans on leaving the flow of committee up to you delegates, so we suggest you come prepared with specific subtopics and policies you hope to discuss! Introduction -- Mahima Shyno

Hey Delegates!  My name is Mahima Shyno (she/her) and I’m the head chair for CCPCJ this year! I am currently a sophomore studying Sociology and Media Studies (concentrated in law and policy.) Academically, I'm super interested in social issues and how societal structures influence and impact communities as well as the role that media can play in creating a better world.  Outside of BMUN, I’m involved in undergraduate research for the linguistics department and I’m a video producer for the Daily Californian (Berkeley’s student news publication!).  I enjoy listening to podcasts, watching movies, and exploring. Recently, I have been doing street photography in the bay and learning to make jewelry.  This is my second year in BMUN but I’ve been involved in MUN since I was in middle school. Welcome to BMUN!

Hi delegates! We are so excited to welcome you to BMUN 72 and the CCPCJ committee. In this committee, you will be learning how to critique, analyze, and fix the international communities current systems, policies, and culture in regards to criminal justice and organized crime. Our first topic addresses the importance of decreasing state dependency on carceral systems . Our second topic addresses organized environmental crime in the Amazon . This blog will act as our committee’s more informal avenue for discussion and communication before the conference– and we’d love to see you interact with it! The purpose of this blog is to (1) allow you to actively engage with the content of this committee and (2) give you all the opportunity to learn about other countries’ policies before the debate actually starts.
