Solution tips!

Hi delegates! As BMUN grows nearer, I wanted to offer some advice on your solutions and what our dais expects for the committee!  Before diving into the different types of solutions we are hoping to see in committee, I wanted to take this opportunity to revisit our learning goals and expectations for research in hopes that your solutions end up addressing these key points: We want the delegates of this committee to recognize that these issues center around real people and have consequences for real people. Hopefully while you are researching you will think about all of the different actors who play a role in this issue and have a stake in your solutions.   We also hope that from your research you focus on community building solutions that use people power and invest love into communities.   The best solutions and delegates will seriously consult their  country's policies and past actions while forming opinions, writing speeches, and building solutions. Please keep these learning

Procedure & Committee Flow!

Hi Delegates! I wanted to check in with you to provide some more insight to how our committee is going to work at BMUN 72. CCPCJ will be using standard BMUN procedure. Our committee will begin by opening a running Speaker’s List (standard speaking time is 1 minute, 30 seconds) and those speeches will be followed by 2 30-second comments by other delegates. This is the default timing for the Speaker’s List and can be amended if agreed upon by the committee. The Speaker’s List can also be interrupted by Moderated Caucuses and Informal Caucuses that give delegates the opportunity to exchange opinions on policy, solutions, and more specific aspects of the topics at hand. In our committee, our dais plans on leaving the flow of committee up to you delegates, so we suggest you come prepared with specific subtopics and policies you hope to discuss! During Informal Caucus time, delegates are expected to draft and write Resolutions which will then be presented to the committee during a Formal

Tips for Public Speaking

Welcome Back to CCPCJ's Blog Delegates! As seasoned Model United Nations community members, we understand that public speaking can be both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. Whether you're a seasoned delegate or a newcomer to BMUN conferences, mastering the art of public speaking is essential for effectively representing your country, articulating your ideas, and negotiating with your fellow delegates. After last week's introductions, we will now share some tips to help you all hone your public speaking skills: Know Your Material: Preparation is critical to delivering a compelling speech.  Take the time to thoroughly research your country's position on the topics at hand, understand the issues, and anticipate potential counterarguments. The more knowledgeable you are about your topic, the more confident you'll feel when speaking. Practice!:  Don't underestimate the power of practice.  Rehearse your speeches multiple times, either in front of a mirror, with friends

Welcome to BMUN!

Hi delegates! We are so excited to welcome you to BMUN 72 and the CCPCJ committee. In this committee, you will be learning how to critique, analyze, and fix the international communities current systems, policies, and culture in regards to criminal justice and organized crime. Our first topic addresses the importance of decreasing state dependency on carceral systems . Our second topic addresses organized environmental crime in the Amazon . This blog will act as our committee’s more informal avenue for discussion and communication before the conference– and we’d love to see you interact with it! The purpose of this blog is to (1) allow you to actively engage with the content of this committee and (2) give you all the opportunity to learn about other countries’ policies before the debate actually starts. You can post comments on posts that we make and write about literally anything relevant to the topics at hand! For example, if you’ve found follow-up content or research you’d like to

Introduction -- Mahima Shyno

Hey Delegates!  My name is Mahima Shyno (she/her) and I’m the head chair for CCPCJ this year! I am currently a sophomore studying Sociology and Media Studies (concentrated in law and policy.) Academically, I'm super interested in social issues and how societal structures influence and impact communities as well as the role that media can play in creating a better world.  Outside of BMUN, I’m involved in undergraduate research for the linguistics department and I’m a video producer for the Daily Californian (Berkeley’s student news publication!).  I enjoy listening to podcasts, watching movies, and exploring. Recently, I have been doing street photography in the bay and learning to make jewelry.  This is my second year in BMUN but I’ve been involved in MUN since I was in middle school. I even competed at BMUN a couple of times so it is super exciting to be on the other side of the conference this year! Since I am a seasoned MUN kid, I know how difficult and stressful it can be to co

Introduction - Min Kim

Hi everyone! My name is Min Kim (she/her) and I will be one of your vice chairs for CCPCJ this year. I'm in my freshman year here at UC Berkeley studying English, and I'm also planning on minoring in Spanish. Last year, I had the opportunity to attend BMUN as a delegate so I'm very excited to be able to participate again as a chair this time. I started MUN in my freshman year of high school not expecting much, but it's become a pivotal part of my educational career and taught me so many skills I would've been lacking in otherwise. During my short time in this club I've been able to meet so many amazing people who are passionate about such a wide array of global issues. Outside of BMUN, I enjoy crocheting/knitting (ask me about my cloud cardigan!), listening to artists like Seventeen and Glass Animals, and reading. I'm also a new fan of Formula 1 and this will be my first season, so I'm excited to tune in! I'm looking forward to hearin
